How we guarantee success in 11+

  • Start their initial lesson with a mock test for us to gain a better understanding of where your child stands.

  • Upon completion of the mock test, your child will be started with an expert tutor that will help your child tailored to their needs.

  • Throughout the course, your child will be given regular unit tests followed by timed mock examinations.

  • At the end of each lesson, the tutor provides personalised feedback and records test results, all accessible on the online portal, which provides updates and real-time progression.

We also aid parents and guardians in the 11+ admission processes for grammar schools so you're up to date.

What is the 11+ examination?

The 11+ is an exclusive examination taken by primary school pupils in their final year (Year 6) to get into a grammar school of their choice. Majority children will in reality be only 10 years old when they sit the test – however the term “11 Plus” in fact refers to the test selecting for schools with an entry age for children aged 11 or over.

You can start preparing your child for the 11+ exam from as little as 7 years old (Year 3) to ensure they have the best understanding and growth of topics until exam time.

11+ covers 4 subjects - Maths, English, Verbal and Non Verbal.

The admission rate for the 11 plus test varies around the country while some schools have several thousand applicants for as few as 180 places.

11+ Maths

The 11+ Maths tests cover a huge variety of topics, which your child will be taught through KS2 but at a much more advanced level. The content of the tests vary depending on your area, however there are key topics that the test in general will cover.

The Maths paper is designed to assess your child's intelligence, mental arithmetic, problem solving, academic potential and test them on what they have learnt throughout primary, at a much tricker level.

The English test corresponds to about National Curriculum Level 5. Exams at each school will vary significantly, but they will all centre on writing, spelling, and reading comprehension. A writing assignment that is typically connected to the reading comprehension chapter comes after the reading comprehension portion.

Students should divide the allotted time evenly between the reading comprehension and writing elements of the test, as the total time allotted to finish both parts can range from 1 to 1.5 hours.

11+ Non Verbal

In the Non-Verbal Reasoning section of the 11+ exam, problems with shapes rather than words have to be solved. Remember that some exam boards - GL specifically - also use codes and letters. It calls for logical thinking, strong spatial awareness, and the capacity to recognise patterns.

Each non-verbal reasoning inquiry has a number of components, including the outline shape, the content, and the shape's direction. The shape's dimensions can change, it can rotate, be reversed, have multiple layers, and so on.

Some also need fundamental counting abilities. Good spatial awareness is necessary for non-verbal reasoning, and some kids are born with this ability.

Trusted by parents. Loved by students.

As a parent, the biggest challenge is keeping kids engaged. With TutorGate, I don’t have to push them - they actually ask to do the lessons. The platform makes learning simple, and the teachers bring back that spark of curiosity that’s often missing in school.

Kamran H

School can sometimes miss the mark, but they fill that gap perfectly. The teachers make subjects engaging and easy to follow. My children are revising, learning new things, and building confidence. It feels like having multiple amazing teachers at home.

Lucy T

Every lesson feels like it’s taught by the “favourite teacher” you had at school. My kids understand better, stay focused, and are genuinely improving. Affordable and top-quality at the same time.
